PLUMBING TIPS

COLD SEASON

OUTDOOR PLUMBING

Faucets

  • During cold months out outdoor faucets remain close, now the season is changing and with warmer weather we are ready to use any plumbing outdoor more often, if your faucets has a shut off valve inside your basement make sure to open valve slow and removing trap air by opening the faucet, once water ha a steady flow close the faucet and make sure you don’t hear water running, in cold weather pipe might frozen and crack, and this can cause a serious damage if water find the way back to the house.

BBQ

  • Gas valve should be check before open main valve in the house, BBQ gas valve might had been in contact with snow or salt causing corrosion in BBQ connection, is always good idea check the well being of the valve to make sure won’t cause and accident.

Hose connections

  • Many people forgot to drained remaining water in outdoor hoses connections, which my cause a leak and an increase on the water bill, if you see your house connection is drilling or water is coming down the side of the house will be good idea to have it replace.

Pool houses

  • With the warm weather a lot of people will begins to use pools and  pool house bathrooms, when opening the main valve run a quick check around and inside the pool house check for cracks on toilets tanks, water connections and running faucets.

Out door drains

  • Spring and summer means more water flow to your main drains, rain fall increase and even washing driveways and cars can help to this issue, make sure your drains are clean and has strainer, during this seasons the sewer clog more often creating a big problems.

Septic tanks

  • If you have a septic tank is always good idea to have it clean and inspect, warmer weather means more people visiting and even staying over, which can cause an overflow of your tank.

INDOOR PLUMBING

Washer machines

  • Believe it or not, warm weather means more dirty clothes, which leads to a over use of your washing machine, check hoses and connection, drain house for any visible crack.

Dryer vents

  • As mentioned before if you will be using washer machine more often means dryer will be affected too. Inspect your dryer vent make sure is clean, a dryer vent clog can cause a fire.

Unused drain

  • Many house has emergency drains or funnel drains which only are use during A.C. season or sometimes are not use at all, is always good to pour some water in it to make sure odors stay out and make sure they have strainer, warm weather means rodents and insect and this can help to keep them out.

Showers drain

  • With people coming over for summer and spring holidays is easier to have a clog shower or tub, have it maintenance is always good and safe way to avoid backups.

Hot waters

  • Hot water heaters are very essential part of your house, if you planning to have family over the demand can be higher, have it check to make sure runs smooth, now if you planning to be away for long time make sure your heater is in low profile or even off, remember the life of a regular water heater is 8 to 11 years.

 Water main valve

  • As winter if you planning to be away for long period of time, I recommend to close main water valve in case something g happen the water won’t be running causing big damages.

Main sewer

  • Having a routine cleaning in your main sewer will avoid many problem and many expenses to your pocket, washing more clothes, having people over and using more outdoor plumbing can overload tour main sewer.
